Round four of the championship and the second consecutive week of racing, it's time for Bahrain!
Bahrain should be different to China for many reasons so don't expect a repeat of last weekend. Temperatures should soar to 35 degrees centigrade and the track should offer up some different challenges to the unusual Shanghai circuit.
Just a quick round-up of the standings so far:

Random Category for Bahrain
Which number 2 driver in the championship will beat their teammate the most over the weekend?
Choices: Webber (Red Bull), Massa (Ferrari), Perez (McLaren), Grosjean (Lotus), Rosberg (Mercedes), Gutierrez (Sauber), Sutil (Force India), Maldonado (Williams), Vergne (Toro Rosso), Van der Garde (Caterham) or Chilton (Marussia).
This random includes all seven sessions plus the fastest lap. If a driver takes part in Q2 and/or Q3 and their teammate doesn't then they automatically win the session.
Ties will be separated by a number of deciders.
Firstly the best time difference during the race for the selected driver compared to their teammate e.g if:
- Rosberg beats Hamilton by 10 seconds in the race
- Sutil beats Di Resta by 20 seconds
- Maldonado loses to Bottas in the race
- And they are all on the same amount of 'wins'
Should one retire this method will not be possible therefore the best time difference for qualifying will be the next decider. This will apply to the best lap time across all qualifying sessions for each driver.
Points will only be scored for the top three picks, three points for the best etc.
As before, post your picks in the following format -

Unfortunately yes, amazingly you're still 5th. By the way Raikkonen isn't an option for random, you have to pick a teammate who is behind their teammate in the championship.

Apologies about the late picks, I'll aim to pick earlier next race.
ReplyDeleteMy picks are:
Qualifying: Sebastian Vettel
Race: Sebastian Vettel
Constructors: Ferrari
Random: Pastor Maldonado
I don't expect much from Maldonado in the race but him and Rosberg are the Practice Kings (Maldonado leads Bottas 8-1).
I hesitated between Sutil and Maldonado. The weak points for Pastor are the race (and therefore the fastest lap) and the Q3, where no Williams will likely to be running.
DeleteYou are expecting that Vettel finishes higher than Alonso and Massa higher than Webber while I'm expecting Alonso > Vettel and Webber > Massa. Interesting. :)
Absolutely, with Maldonado you have five sessions out of eight where the chances are quite high in my opinion. The Force India drivers might make it to Q3 which gives Sutil an extra session to potentially beat Di Resta.
DeleteI would have considered Sutil more but I have a feeling Di Resta will comprehensively beat him this weekend, no real reason apart from gut feeling + last year's result.
I'm expecting the first five places to be made up of two Red Bull drivers, two Mercedes drivers and probably a Ferrari. I'm expecting the Ferrari to get very strong starts (as usual) and Webber to potentially struggle if he falls behind on the first lap. My race and constructors picks are a way of hedging between Vettel and Alonso who are my two favourites for the race.
Question: the penalty against Webber doesn't have the impact in the qualifying positions for us, right? He's going to get the best time.
DeleteThe penalty is outside of the qualifying session so it won't affect your Webber pick for qualifying e.g. Schumacher would have scored you a full 8 points for Monaco last year.
DeleteMy picks for Bahrain are
ReplyDeleteQualifying-Sebastian Vettel
Race-Fernando Alonso
Constructors-Ferrari
Random- Adrian Sutil
Ah! Almost missed the deadline. Would have been an amazing way to go after the podium last week.

Only waiting on picks from Rajaram - fingers crossed he picks before FP1 like we discussed during the China weekend!
ReplyDeleteScott I did a last minute change in Ramdom option, I'm agree with you that Maldonado will beat easily Bottas and the figth Between sutil & Diresta is going to split the chances.
ReplyDeleteI haven't written this into the rules so I'm happy for you (or anyone else) to make changes before FP1.
DeleteIn the future I'll have to review this. My initial thoughts were to prohibit it after a reasonable time after the initial post. It will be there to stop people from switching to block etc. which might be more tempting towards the end of the season. Obviously anyone has the choice to email their picks to me so I can keep them blind until after the deadline.
Obviously I'm not suggesting anything about your change, just explaining my thoughts about changing picks.
Does anyone else have any particular opinions on this going forward?
Tks, I did read so quickly the Ramdom conditions. And I've never imagine that Maldonado was an option. Just realize when you wrote about it. In theory he's number 1
