Congratulations to Dead Jedi on their first win of the season and Dragan and Jasper94 for their fifth and second podiums respectively. Vettel, Vettel, Red Bull pickers were looking like taking maximum points until the last lap when Webber unfortunately retired.
There's been a bit of shake up and here are the overall standings now:
Podium (see post for further results)
Constructors Championship
For constructors, so not to disadvantage teams with only one driver (or to protect against someone who doesn't post), players will score points in line with race finishes. See the overall results from Italy below, Dead Jedi will score 25 points for his 1st place this weekend. This is different to how the drivers championship will be scored. If players are tied they will be separated by the following criteria: Race > Constructors > Qualifying > Random > The time of the pick (earlier the better).

Which two drivers will lose the most positions on the first lap?
Well done to Ediglo and Dragan who were the only two people to pick two drivers who both lost positions, that ultimately proved the difference.

Point Allocation (Season)
Most Season Session Points
Most season session points is the ultimate gauge of consistency across all race weekend sessions. For every session (P1, P2, P3, qualifying and race) + fastest lap a driver is allocated points equivalent to the race finish (25 = 1st, 18 = 2nd, etc.). These points will be totalled across every weekend and the winner will be the one with the most points.
Given Vettel's dominance we'll see how things go next week but if he wins then restrictions will be imposed for the competitiveness of the league.
Woo hoo! My first big win!
ReplyDeleteWell done! Great effort, you've been pretty fantastic recently so it's well deserved.
DeleteI was so lucky here.If Webber did finish the race on 4th position i would finish probably 10th or even lower.
ReplyDeleteI admire that you went for the risk though. It doesn't always happen but luck tends to balance out over time (unless you're Mark Webber!)
DeleteI'd be ok with a no-Vettel round this week.
ReplyDeleteI voted 'yes' to Vettel being banned. I'm not too bothered either way tbh! What do other people think?
ReplyDeleteI voted yes too.I did have some free time recently so I decided to see how much points I would have if I did put Vettel in every pick (qual. and race) and RedBull as constructors winner on every race from the beginning of the season.I would have exactly 190 points , plus from random , let we say about 10-15 which is 205 points at this moment which would put me just behind the 3rd position and if you continue to put Vettel to the end of the season you would probably finish 1st or 2nd at the end , which is ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to banned Vettel , otherwise i dont think we would see any changes on the table to the end of the season , because 90% of the people would gone for Vettel in the Korea next week.
I would prefer to ban Vettel too as I always enjoy a league which rewards a bit of thinking. You're right Dragan, if we don't ban Vettel it's going to be very difficult for people to make up places in the league. The worst part will be that those who dare to gamble will probably be burnt.
ReplyDeleteI know that Joe is against the idea, as he's not keen on a change of rules part-way through the season. I would imagine he's happy to change provided the majority agree.
The other issue is logistical, he wrote "Also, I would raise logistical issues. I.e, were he to be banned, would it be just as a race pick? Or race and qualifying? Or Race, qualifying and randoms? And if we exclude him from qualifying, would it make sense to exclude Hamilton as well?". Also would Red Bull be banned from constructors?
I think it would make sense to compromise because I think any solution would be rushed and people who haven't visited the blog since the last race might be against or surprised by the change.
My solution is: Don't ban Vettel this week but get everyone to post their preferences along with their picks. At least in that sense we'll allow everyone to have their say and we can make sure the logistics are as fair as possible.
As for the random, the random will be a lot more complicated this week. And the random will be the decider for constructors points (all the way down the field) as opposed to time picked. We'll see a lot of Vettel, Vettel, Red Bull picks this week I would imagine so it's not fair to reward people based on how quickly they access the site.
Hopefully this sounds fair to everyone.
Much like yourself Dragan I can see most of the league picking Vettel out of caution to ensure points and not take any risks. I would also like to maintain the ability to a least catch 3rd place but if everybody picks Vettel,Vettel and Red Bull coupled with the unpredictable nature of random and midseason points subject to change I can't guarantee that will happen. Also I myself love a good gamble with thought behind it and did it this season in both Malysia and Bahrain with Alonso and Ferrari only for mistakes by Alonso and Ferrari to cost me massively. This burnt me and I can see others who might gamble on a Mercedes or Lotus being persuaded out of that as the trend at the moment is a Vettel win.
ReplyDeletePreviously playing this game with Scott in 2011 a ban was placed on Vettel after the first 6 races, this was done with unanimous vote and was because he had won every race with the same strategy. The difference then was there were only 3 people in comparison to the 14 regular players in this season and the change was transparent to all at an early point in the season rather than the last 5 races.
As Scott has stated above there is a logistical issue in that do you ban Vettel in only the race, race and qualifying or also omit Red Bull from the constructors. Not only that if Alonso keeps getting second for the rest of the season do you ban him from race or Hamilton from qualifying because he is the next best on the grid.
I agree with Scott's compromise as only 4 or 5 people responded to the poll on this site. That way it gives time to see if a solution could be implemented such as peoples preferences gaining some points if they have a reasonable race or perhaps the need for a choice of a singular driver other than Vettel who will be rewarded for consistency over the last 5 races. If you have any alternative ideas I am sure Scott will consider them.
If you want to know I voted undecided as there was no option for flexibility with a preference to banning Vettel. However, points were raised which were perfectly valid and are of a solid principle and logic which can't be ignored. Namely you don't change the rules of the game at the end and How do you implement a new ruling which is transparent to everybody yet fair. At the moment the best possible option is to not ban Vettel but creatively find ways for the next race to allow everybody mathematically who has a chance of winning the opportunity to catch the leaders of the league.
I agree to ban Vettel. I think we need to take risk. It is that I try to do every week. Sometimes results. How am I 11th or 10th with 3 races less? Taking risks. So take out Vettel or reduce the points earned for picking him.
