Britain Results and Championship Standings (8/19)

Congratulations to Jasper94 on their first win of the season! Jasper was originally unlucky in an earlier race, when they picked too slightly too late and would have won given their picks. They've made amends with the right picks this weekend though. Unluckily for several pickers (Vettel pickers in particularly) the luck didn't quite fall for them, with two pickers (Kim and Rajaram) losing 13 points due to Vettel's retirement.

Overall the standard of picking was relatively strong this weekend, and there's a chance in the coming week to capitalise on any momentum seized here.

Here are the overall standings now:

Podium (see post for further results)

Constructors Championship

For constructors, so not to disadvantage teams with only one driver (or to protect against someone who doesn't post), players will score points in line with race finishes. See the overall results from Britain below, Jasper94 will score 25 points for his 1st place this weekend. This is different to how the drivers championship will be scored. If players are tied they will be separated by the following criteria: Race > Constructors > Qualifying > Random > The time of the pick (earlier the better).

Round-up of Silverstone Picks

This is a round-up of the British GP picks at Silverstone.

See the following for:
The Overall Championship Standings after Canada - 7/19 (http://formulaoneanalysis.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/canada-results-and-championship.html)

I've included an extra table, picks ordered by season points in that category.

The most common picks this week were: Hamilton, Alonso, Red Bull, Webber/Hulkenberg. The most odd distribution is that nine of the top ten in the championship picked Red Bull however no one 11-15 did.

Silverstone - F1 Prediction League (Round 8)

The British Grand Prix is here! Amid disputes and reports of growing discontent from Red Bull and Ferrari, we head to Silverstone for the 47th race held on the circuit. Only Monza and Monaco have played host to more races.

Last year Webber ran an excellent race and won a vital victory in the championship battle, robbing Alonso of 7 points. Can Webber repeat his form or will Vettel dominate in the other Red Bull?

With a number of fantastic results from various high ranked people in the prediction league, the pack are closing in.

MetalGatherer in only their third race pulled off an amazing weekend, predicting Vettel and Red Bull across the board which turned out to be perfect.

Just a quick round-up of the standings so far:

This was updated on the 28/06/2013.

Random Category for Silverstone

Which driver will come closest to completing the Triple?

The Triple refers to the same result across qualifying, race and the fastest lap, this doesn't have to be first place, it could be fifth or fourteenth.

The following drivers are off-limits: Sebastian Vettel (the championship leader), Charles Pic, Van der Garde, Bianchi and Chilton (the four teams driving for Caterham and Marussia). This is in order to take away the five obvious picks, which will make this category far more interesting.

The score will be calculated on the difference away from the middle number (ordered sequentially) so if three different people picked three different drivers the scoring would be as follows:

Driver - Qualifying - Race - Fastest Lap - Score
Massa    8th - 10th - 15th (10 - 8 = 2 | 15 - 10 = 5 |  2 + 5 = 7)
Sutil       6th - 9th - 10th (9 - 6 = 3 | 10 - 9 = 1 |  3 + 1 = 4)
Alonso   5th - 2nd - 6th (5 - 2 = 3 | 6 - 5 = 1 |  3 + 1 = 4)

There are several tie-breaks.
  • The first tie-break will be how far the race position is from the middle number, in Sutil's case it is the middle number (9th) where Alonso's race (2nd) is 3 away from the middle number.
  • Should there still be a tie, this applies to the qualifying position.
  • Finally the ultimate race position will be the deciding factor, the closest to the lead the better.
Given the tie-breakers above, Sutil will win on TB1.

Points will be allocated based on the following:

1st - 3 points
2nd and 3rd - 2 points
4th, 5th and 6th - 1 point

Canada Results and Championship Standings (7/19)

Congratulations to MetalGatherer for a fantastic weekend which included a win while becoming only the second person this year to score over 20 points in a race weekend. Kim, Rajaram and Wander all stated their intent for the championship battle with strong performances. The key to this weekend was Vettel and Red Bull who dominated throughout the weekend. Many people opted towards Rosberg for qualifying and Alonso for race (myself included) which wasn't the ideal strategy this weekend.

As a race and a spectacle Canada was far more entertaining than Monaco so hopefully you enjoyed the weekend regardless of the result.

This was updated on 28/06/2013 due to an error with Joe which was spotted.

Round-up of Canada Picks

This is a round-up of the Canada picks.

See the following for:
The Overall Championship Standings after Monaco - 6/19 (http://formulaoneanalysis.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/monaco-results-and-championship.html)

All top seven players picked Rosberg, the next seven Hamilton. Only last place picked Vettel. Qualifying was the biggest surprise in terms of picks because of this very random distribution. Race and Constructors also saw a number of difference choices with the top three picking different race winners and constructor for most points.

Canada - F1 Prediction League (Round 7)

Canada is always one of the best races on the calendar so hopefully this year is no different. With rain scheduled, an already topsy turvy qualifying/race could turn out to be pretty chaotic.

Last year saw a colossal battle between Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel with the latter two making strategy errors which gave us a very unpredictable podium. Will a similar shock happen this year?

This weekend is honestly very difficult to call, any of the top teams could shine so I'm expecting plenty of variety in the picks. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out!

Also will Dragan be able to build on their success and race win in Monaco. Joe and Rajaram have also been charging forward, with both Ferrari drivers occupying the first four places in the driver championship.
